WHO recommended a strategy to control TB in
the world called directly observed treatment, short course (DOTS) which
includes; political commitment, case detection, standardization of treatment, adequate
drug supply, monitoring and evaluation of its impact. In India however this
strategy has been failing due to several reasons: Lack of commitment from the
government, inefficiency of handling a large population with TB, lack of information for poor people
regarding the disease and its control, lack of patient follow up are few of the
several problems associated with it.
