The prevalence of TB in India is so high that over 40%
of the Indian population is suffering from TB, with 2 deaths in every 3 minutes
due to TB. India is facing the burden of both pulmonary and extra-pulmonary TB.
The number of multidrug resistant TB patients are increasing in numbers in
India yet the MDR TB management is unsatisfactory. Extensively drug resistant
TB is emerging with the potential of an incurable disease. Immediate action
plan that needs to be undertaken are improvement of pathological services, drug
susceptibility testing for mycobacterium species and early start of the
specific TB- Treatment method.
